Lewes District Council Planning Applications Committee unanimously refused, against a strong recommendation from their officers, an application by Gleeson Strategic Land to build 110 houses on a greenfield site in Ringmer.
Planning loophole causing glut of house building in the countryside
Written by CPRE National OfficeA new research paper from the Campaign to Protect Rural England (CPRE) published today shows that steep targets for the amount of land councils must allocate for housing are opening the door to major housing developments in the countryside.
Since the last District report in May, there have been a few planning decisions to cheer. These decisions encourage us in our ongoing campaign to ensure that environmental considerations that foster our precious local countryside and its rural heritage are properly weighed in the planning balance against the need (which we fully recognise) for new homes.
CPRE Sussex Countryside Awards 2014 - Finalists announced!
Written by CPRE SussexAfter several months of reviewing entries and visiting projects, we are pleased to announce that the following projects have become our finalists for this year’s ceremony, which takes place at Firle Place on the evening of the 16th October.
The Annual CPRE Sussex Countryside Trust Bursary of £500.00 will be awarded to a student from the University of Sussex studying Environmental Sciences who has a serious interest in raising awareness of environmental and countryside issues over the full course of the coming year (between October 2014 and July 2015).

CPRE Sussex submitted our formal objection to the 100 home development on the 9-acre site at Meadow Vale. Lightwood Property have submitted an application to Brighton and Hove Council to build homes on the greenfield site.
