CPRE calls for more focus on shale oil exploitation implications for Sussex in its submission on WSCC’s proposed new minerals local policy

CPRE Sussex has made representations to West Sussex County Council (WSCC) on the early stage background documents that will inform WSCC and the South Downs National Park Authority in their development of a new joint minerals local plan for Mid Sussex to replace their current (2003) out-of-date plan.

2014 AGM: Plumpton College

This year we returned to Plumpton College, the expanding and thriving home of East Sussex land-based education, for our AGM. The morning meeting included presentations with speakers on the theme of Sussex farming and the environment and included presentations by Sussex Wildlife Trust and Ben Taylor of Iford Farms (see below to download Powerpoint presentations).

Show us your brownfield sites! #wasteofspace

Did you know that the most recent government figures (2009) show that there are enough brownfield to build up to 1.5m homes on? While we're facing unprecedented pressure on England's green field sites, with up to 30 local planning authorities intending to release green belt sites for development. CPRE figures show that that over 700,000 homes are planned on greenfield sites over the next 20 years!

We need you to help us show just how much brownfield is being wasted in the UK

 

Please help us with our new #wasteofspace campaign to show just how much brownfield land there is in the UK that could be turned into housing. Don't let the housing crisis become an excuse for losing our countryside.

Sussex Countryside Charter Launches!

Campaigners from the Sussex branch of the Campaign to Protect Rural England (CPRE Sussex) have today aunched their ‘Sussex Countryside Charter’, which calls on MPs and Councillors to ensure better protection for the countryside. The Charter will be launched as part of the CPRE Sussex AGM, which takes place at Plumpton College. With increasing development pressures being forced upon our open countryside, CPRE Sussex has produced the Charter to send a strong message to local and national politicians that the countryside is vital to the health and wellbeing of people in Sussex.
