Did you know that the most recent government figures (2009) show that there are enough brownfield to build up to 1.5m homes on? While we're facing unprecedented pressure on England's green field sites, with up to 30 local planning authorities intending to release green belt sites for development. CPRE figures show that that over 700,000 homes are planned on greenfield sites over the next 20 years!

We need you to help us show just how much brownfield is being wasted in the UK

Please help us with our new #wasteofspace campaign to show just how much brownfield land there is in the UK that could be turned into housing. Don't let the housing crisis become an excuse for losing our countryside.

What can you do?

WHEN YOU’RE OUT AND ABOUT: PLEASE take photos of any brownfield sites you come across and email them to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. with the road or postcode and a short description such as what the site used to be: air field, factory, garage etc.

If you can’t send a description, please still send us the photo – we’re looking for as many examples as possible! The photos don’t need to be of sites in the countryside – they can be anywhere in the country.

If you're on Twitter, you can tweet your photo with the hashtag #wasteofspace.
