CPRE Sussex response to Wealden Local Plan

CPRE Sussex has submitted an extensive response to the Wealden Local Plan.

Are you concerned about the traffic impacts of the proposed IKEA on the A27 between Shoreham and Lancing? Are you concerned about the loss of the Sussex Pad and a deterioration of access to the National Park for walkers, cyclists and equestrians? Are you worried about the impact on wildlife, heritage and the National Park? Do you think the issue of flood risk and the impact on existing properties has been adequately examined?

Action urgently needed. IKEA decision shock

Last night (Oct 3 2018) in a controversial decision, Adur Council decoded by five votes to three to approve the New Monks Farm development. CPRE Sussex are calling on members of the public to urgently write to James Brokenshire MP, Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government to review the decision by calling it in.

In May, Highways England, the Government’s road building company, announced its preferred route for the A27 Arundel Bypass. All three options included in the public consultation were highly damaging but the one it chose was perhaps the worst. (No option avoided harming the National Park or ancient woodland or gave people a choice to reduce car use)

Both of these applications are due to be considered by Adur Planning committee on 3rd October 2018.

APPLICATIONS AWDM/0961/17 (New Monks Farm, Lancing) and AWDM/1093/17 (Cecil Pashley Way, Shoreham Airport)

CPRE Sussex is working with local groups to challenge the New Monks Farm developments. Chair, David Johnson, has written to local MPs alerting them to our concerns:

Stephen Hardy, CPRE Sussex Trustee, was among the objectors to an application to fell 71 trees at Beauport Holiday Park.
