‘CPRE Sussex is much concerned to improve the quality of Local Plans and major developments across Sussex. We seek to promote and protect our precious Sussex countryside while ensuring thriving towns and settlements; this necessitates ensuring an effective rural and urban economy.
The danger of current government housing pressures means we currently produce housing unaffordable to local people on local wages. If we cannot offer places for skilled and educated younger people to live and work here, people will need to commute, and our economies will become dominated by care services and retail jobs rather than local high skills employment and entrepreneurship.
CPRE Sussex seeks to help shape a positive future for Sussex with well-being at its core. We know that this will be impossible unless local councillors and politicians, businesses and LEPs determine to work more closely with community organisations and residents.
CPRE Sussex has been working closely with the Shoreham Society, Adur Residents for Environmental Action (AREA) and community organisations, to oppose the New Monks Farm developments. These include a 35,000m2 IKEA beside the A27 in Lancing and hitherto, banned building on the historic Shoreham Airport. We are forwarding a briefing to alert you to our concerns, a similar expression of concern is available from Tim Loughton MP.
Sussex deserves better, and CPRE Sussex is keen to work with you to make this happen.
Yours sincerely,
David Johnson, Chair
