A full house at Selmeston Village Hall as locals discuss concerns over new A27 Dual carriageway East of Lewes
After recent confusion over plans for a new dual carriageway between Lewes and Polegate announced by local MPs Maria Caulfield and Stephen Lloyd, South Coast Alliance for Transport and the Environment (SCATE), the Folkington Estate and RH & RW Clutton presented to a ‘full house’ at Selmeston Village Hall on June 12th to talk about what is being proposed.

Plans for Horsham Incinerator extinguished
West Sussex County Council planning committee at County Hall in Chichester today (19th June) decided in an 8 to 4 vote to dismiss the planning application by haulage firm, Britaniacrest, for a “Recycling, Recovery and Renewable” thermal treatment facility in Horsham.

A27 Chichester study criticised: lacks sustainable transport measures
A recent ‘Build a Better A27’ report by transport consultants Systra, has been criticised by concerned community and environmental groups for a lack of sustainable transport solutions. As a result of several workshops over the last year led by West Sussex County Council, and from public engagement exercises, Systra have put forward two possible options for improving the A27 at Chichester.
Crowdfunding launched for second legal challenge to bypass
A crowdfunding campaign is being launched this week to raise funds for a second legal challenge to Highways England, over their plan to put a dual carriageway through Arundel’s watermeadows and the South Downs National Park.

CPRE Chair urges South Downs Authority to challenge A27 announcement
On 24 May CPRE Sussex’s Chair David Johnson attended a rally and spoke at a meeting of the South Downs National Park Authority alongside local people and wildlife groups to urge the Authority to uphold its statutory duty to protect the park and challenge Highways England’s announcement of the preferred route for the Arundel bypass as option 5a.
