Members and friends joined us for a busy AGM on the 16th July, the first truly hot day this summer, at the stunning Barcombe Village Hall.
On Sunday 24 July CPRE Sussex joined the festivities at the Binsted strawberry fair. As well as talking to the local community about threats to the countryside, we showed our support for the Arundel Bypass Neighbourhood Committee (ABNC) in opposing damaging options for the Arundel bypass.
On Sunday 17 July CPRE Sussex attended the Brighton People's Festival to raise awareness of our work and find out more about local priorities. We will also be attending Binsted Strawberry Fair on 24 July, Rural Day at St Ann’s Well Garden on 14th August 2016 and the Brunswick Festival on the 20th and 21st August. CPRE Sussex at Brightling International Horse Trials: 2nd July 2016
Written by Lesley WilsonCPRE Sussex were warmly welcomed at Brightling Park International Horse Trials on 2nd July. We battled against high winds and blustery showers to assemble our stand but were rewarded with generous offers of help and by the glorious panoramic views of the High Weald countryside.
This landscape is stunning offering extensive ancient woodland, rolling hills, historic farmland bordered by precious hedgerows and the glimpse of distant church spires hint at hidden villages.
Visitors to our stand shared their deep concerns about the loss of green fields to development in their villages, the intrusion of low flying and more frequent aircraft over the Weald, housing without the jobs or the infrastructure and facilities to support the growth.
Many feel overwhelmed by the pace of development.

When I booked this visit I was not envisaging one of the wettest Junes on record. The afternoon visit was preceded by a night and morning of heavy rain and strong winds.
