Over a hundred and forty Arundel residents crowded into the St Nicholas Hall to make sure that their parliament candidates heard their concerns and ambitions for the town and its surrounding countryside.

The event, organised by Arundel SCATE (the South Coast Alliance for Transport and the Environment), and CPRE Sussex, saw candidates from the main parties set out their stall on issues affecting Arundel. The hot topic of the evening being the proposals for a new Arundel bypass.

Horsham’s prospective Parliamentary Candidates were quizzed on their countryside credentials in front of a packed crowd at the weekend (Saturday). The candidates faced questions on a range of rural issues from housing to fracking, at a pre-election hustings which attracted hundreds of concerned local people.

You are warmly invited to join us for an event we are hosting for our members and all those who love the Sussex countryside on Saturday, 28th February. Hear about issues affecting your local countryside and CPRE’s work. We are delighted to welcome Ian Everest, Sussex Historian, who will reflect on life on a Sussex Farm during the 1950s. Ian will show a cine film from this period and talk about life on the farm and what has happened since. After coffee, Michael Nailard from The Woodland Flora & Fauna Group will talk about the invaluable conservation work of this successful local group.
