The farmer, having perhaps more insight into the vagaries of the British climate, advised me that the weather would clear and he was right. So the walk went ahead and despite some rather muddy conditions the afternoon turned out to be fascinating thanks to the farmer, Derek Crush. One of our members exclaimed , ”what a gem Derek Crush is and how does he manage to fit everything into his very busy day!?” Derek has farmed at Daylands for over 30 years and is a keen advocate of sustainable practices. His farm participates in the High Level Stewardship Scheme and it was a delight to be able to walk through beautiful ancient woodlands. His daughters provided that all important farmhouse cream tea which was delicious. Our thanks go to Derek and his team for making us so welcome. We hope to return soon.
CPRE Sussex Outing to Daylands Farm, 20th June
Friday, 08 July 2016 11:13
When I booked this visit I was not envisaging one of the wettest Junes on record. The afternoon visit was preceded by a night and morning of heavy rain and strong winds.
