Wealden Council declares a climate emergency
At a meeting on Wednesday July 17, Wealden District Council’s cabinet resolved to recommend the full council declare a ‘climate emergency’ in light of reports from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. This will be discussed by councillors when they meet for a full council meeting next Wednesday, July 24.
Gatwick announces expansion ‘by the back door’
Gatwick continues to ignore rural communities and the impact it is having on our planet says CPRE Sussex in response to the Gatwick Master Plan launched on 18th July. Despite the Airport commission decision to expand Heathrow, Gatwick will pursue a plan to use the ‘emergency’ or ‘standby’ runway as a second runway whilst also safeguarding land for a third runway.

CPRE Sussex AGM 2019 at Bates Green Farm, Arlington on Friday, 5th July
Our AGM was well received last Friday, with over 70 members, friends and colleagues enjoying the glorious weather and countryside setting of Bates Green Farm near Arlington and the thought provoking presentations given by our speakers Prof Dan Osborn, School of Human Ecology at UCL, and Dr Tony Whitbread, President of the Sussex Wildlife Trust.
