The document below was adopted in April 2015 by the Board of Trustees of CPRE Sussex as its Branch policy on shale gas exploration within the County (covering both exploration that uses fracking techniques and drilling that does not);. Our Branch policy builds on National office policy on fracking, and is intended primarily to guide those responding to planning applications for exploration drilling and flow evaluation permission.

Responding to a recent article by Mayfield Market Towns director Peter Freeman, CPRE Sussex Trustee Michael Brown has blasted Freeman's company as "a development company that is selling castles in the sand" in the Mid Sussex Times, on 16 January 2013.

Gatwick Airport included on airport expansion shortlist

The Government-appointed Airports Commission has included Gatwick Airport in its shortlist of three options for runway expansion.
Reacting to the announcement, Georgia Wrighton, Director of Campaign to Protect Rural England (Sussex) said:
“A second runway at Gatwick, together with sprawling development and car parks anticipated on a massive scale, would concrete over cherished open countryside. A heady cocktail of increased flights, HGV traffic and cars would erode the tranquillity of rural communities, and the health and quality of life of people living under its shadow.
