Local author Helen Peter's book The Secret Hen House Theatre has been shortlisted for the 2015 Waterstones Children's Book Prize. The kids' book was inspired by a real-life struggle to safe the farm she grew up on in Ringmer, Plashett Park Farm, from being destroyed by South East Water's £90m proposal to flood the area to create their proposed Clayhill Resevoir.

CPRE Sussex calls for the Weald to be left well alone

The arrival of the new Government provides fresh impetus for CPRE Sussex to take forward its anti-fracking campaign.
It goes to the heart of that campaign that the British Geological Survey concluded last year that shale layers below the Weald basin are unlikely to hold significant amounts of exploitable gas but may well hold substantial amounts of oil - though the BGS report that the amount that would be commercially recoverable remains very uncertain and depends as much on economic and political factors as geological ones.

Over a hundred and forty Arundel residents crowded into the St Nicholas Hall to make sure that their parliament candidates heard their concerns and ambitions for the town and its surrounding countryside.
The event, organised by Arundel SCATE (the South Coast Alliance for Transport and the Environment), and CPRE Sussex, saw candidates from the main parties set out their stall on issues affecting Arundel. The hot topic of the evening being the proposals for a new Arundel bypass.

We opposed the construction of “solar farms” that we thought would be intrusive in the views from The South Downs. These solar farms are now being constructed; by the summer we may have a clearer idea of what their visual impact is.
