CPRE Sussex is delighted that, after a lengthy enquiry, permission to construct 50 acres of glasshouses at Easton Farm on the Manhood Peninsula has been refused.

Following the intervention of the CPRE Mid-Sussex district, inappropriate and unsightly advertising has been removed from the side of the A264 at Crawley Down.

With the Government’s review of airport capacity now on hold until Autumn 2012, CPRE Sussex is gearing up for any proposals which could pose a threat to the Sussex countryside.
Gatwick is currently the world’s busiest single-runway airport and a significant source of development pressure and congestion locally.

CPRE Sussex CT continues to fight a proposal for an enormous glasshouse complex at Almodington on the Manhood Peninsula. It is obvious that this proposal will be a significant intrusion into the landscape and will generate a great deal of heavy lorry movement in an area of quiet country lanes and already congested access to the A27. The decision date for the Easton Farm appeal, also known as the Manhood Peninsula /Madestein appeal, has now been set to August 13.
An application for a market housing development at ‘Newick Hill’ in the village of Newick has been withdrawn. Newick, a large village in Lewes District, has several surrounding green-rated Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment Sites.
