Update: May 2014

Friday, 30 May 2014 11:42

The current state of play with regard to the Rother Local Plan is that the second public inquiry was held at the end of January, and the Inspector promised then to be able to report in May.

However since the publication of the NPPF guidance in April, she has said that she needs to consider this and that the timetable will slip.

Rother’s problem of not having an extant plan is exacerbated by the fact that Hastings progressed theirs and persuaded their inspector to agree that Hastings could not provide 3000 of the agreed needed houses in the plan period, and as Hastings is surrounded entirely by Rother – or the sea – only Rother can take up the shortfall.

There does appear to be an increase in developers’ speculative activity, taking advantage of NPPF principles and the lack of the Rother Local Plan, both for small and larger sites.

Rother has its first major solar farm submission, currently out for consultation, about which we intend to comment.
