The collection by a group of professional and amateur watercolourists is now on sale to raise money for the LAMBS Fighting Fund which was formed to finance a defense against the developers at Horsham District Council hearings next month.
Mayfield Market Towns proposals to build 10,000 houses on open countryside is not supported by local communities or by a majority of local land owners. Neither is it supported by any Parish Councils, District Councils or by the two local MPs.
Mayfields wants its scheme to be added to the District Plans which would take Horsham's housing numbers from 13,000 to between 20,000 and 23,000 over the next 20 years. The scheme would destroy 2,000 acres of unspoiled open countryside, river meadows, mashlands, woodlands and miles of ancient hedgerows.
The art collection includes work by two members of the Sussex Watercolour Society; Penny Hopkins and Alison Sibley and popular Hurstpierpoint artist, Mary Faux Jackson.
Penny grew up in Hurstpierpoint and now lives near Wineham. She has been a member of the Sussex Watercolour Society for more than 30 years and has exhibited for the prestigious Royal Water Colour Society and throughout Sussex and London. Her work is now in private collections across the world.
Alison, who is also a member of both the Sussex Watercolour Society and The Association of Sussex Artists exhibits across the county and in London. Most of her work is on canvas and is unique for its use of texture.
