As part of their 80th anniversary, the Campaign for National Parks are starting a ‘Big Conversation about National Parks’ and encouraging as many people as possible to help shape National Parks for the future by completing their survey.

Fiona Howie, their chief executive said, "We are proud to stand up for National Parks. But, in our heart of hearts, we know they can be even better. To feed into our thinking about this, we are asking people to tell us what they think those changes could be."

Please help them by completing this survey!

Making Places

Written by CPRE Sussex

Mon 21 March 2016

The importance of good design in local planning was under the spotlight in Newhaven last night at a workshop organised by CPRE Sussex and Action in Rural Sussex.
The event, at The Hillcrest Community Centre, was the final in a series of ‘Making Places’ workshops tackling “developer mediocrity” and poor design, in an initiative to safeguard the distinctive character of Sussex.

If, by the time that you finish reading this note, you end up confused as to the significance that Government and its Planning Inspectorate dogsbody attach to adopted neighbourhood plans (NPs) when it comes to deciding planning applications that don’t coincide with the NP, then you will be in the same boat as the author: so please don’t shoot the messenger.

The current Government, and its predecessor, have laid great public store on offering local communities a greater say in the planning of their towns and villages to suit and shape their local needs.  A locally crafted neighbourhood plan is the vehicle by which local communities can express the way in which their area should be developed to meet their particular needs in the years ahead.

Wealden CPRE meeting

Written by CPRE Sussex

Thanks to everyone who came to our recent meeting about the Wealden Local Plan. Here are the notes from our discussion.

The Midhurst and Petworth Observer has today (10 March 2016) released a story explaining how the South Downs National Park Authority (SDNPA) wants tighter fracking controls as part of the joint West Sussex County Council and SDNPA Waste and Minerals Plan.

The story goes on to say:

TIGHTER policies on ‘fracking’ have been called for by members of the South Downs National Park (SDNPA) as they shape their joint minerals local plan to cover the next 25 years.
