On this very day, CPRE began its vital conservation work to protect the countryside. Much has been achieved but, as Andrew Motion writes in the Forward to CPRE’s anniversary book – 22 Ideas That Saved the English Countryside – “with the current preoccupation with economic growth at all costs, it is no exaggeration to say that our countryside is in greater danger than it has ever been”. Our campaigning remains as relevant as ever. Special thanks to Peter Waine and Oliver Hilliam, co-authors of the CPRE 90th anniversary book, for their inspiring and entertaining speeches to bring to a satisfying close a most enjoyable afternoon and a huge thank you to all our loyal volunteers and members who enable us to continue this work, your support is vital.
