CPRE Sussex Trustee Dr Roger F Smith joined the many voices responding to Horsham District Council's Horsham District Planning Framework with statement issued to the West Sussex County Times.

This year we returned to Plumpton College, the expanding and thriving home of East Sussex land-based education, for our AGM. The morning meeting included presentations with speakers on the theme of Sussex farming and the environment and included presentations by Sussex Wildlife Trust and Ben Taylor of Iford Farms (see below to download Powerpoint presentations).

While we're facing unprecedented pressure on England's green field sites, with up to 30 local planning authorities intending to release green belt sites for development. CPRE figures show that that over 700,000 homes are planned on greenfield sites over the next 20 years!

Campaigners from the Sussex branch of the Campaign to Protect Rural England (CPRE Sussex) have today aunched their ‘Sussex Countryside Charter’, which calls on MPs and Councillors to ensure better protection for the countryside. The Charter will be launched as part of the CPRE Sussex AGM, which takes place at Plumpton College. With increasing development pressures being forced upon our open countryside, CPRE Sussex has produced the Charter to send a strong message to local and national politicians that the countryside is vital to the health and wellbeing of people in Sussex.

CPRE Sussex made a submission to the South Downs National Park Local Plan Consultation. We shall be publishing the details of our submission shortly.

The Brighton & Lewes Downs Biosphere was assigned the designation by the United Nations on June 11 2014 as part of the Man and the Biosphere project led by UNESCO.

Arundel and South Downs MP Nick Herbert spoke out against plans for a 10,000-house development in front of an audience of more than 500 people last Friday.

CPRE Chichester District responded strongly to an application by Celtique Energie for "exploratory drilling" for shale gas exploration at Kirdford, West Sussex. (WSCC/083/13/KD).
