Bewl Water eco-lodges rejected: CPRE’s letter of objection

A controversial planning application for eco-holiday lodges at Bewl Water has been turned down. It was CPRE Sussex’s view that this development would be inappropriate and damaging to the tranquillity of Bewl Water, which is popular for recreational use and in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
Parish councils spurred on to create Neighbourhood Plans

CPRE Sussex joined forces with CPRE national office and the National Association of Local Councils NALC to provide a planning workshop for Sussex Parish councillors to assist them in making Neighbourhood Plans. The event at Pulborough on 1st November was attended by parish councillors from Birdham, Henfield, Herstmonceux, Hunston, Patching, Petworth, Pulborough, Southbourne, Westhampnett and Woolbeding with Redford.
New Government proposals threaten the countryside with development

The Government is consulting on plans to relax the rules relating to change of use of buildings. This change, if approved, could have serious implications for the way farm buildings are used in the countryside, with impacts such as additional traffic from commuting.

Our Neighbourhood Planning event on 24 July was a great success and brought villages together from across the county to discuss local issues and learn how to take forward their own Neighbourhood Plans.
Easton Farm appeal: decision date set

CPRE Sussex CT continues to fight a proposal for an enormous glasshouse complex at Almodington on the Manhood Peninsula. It is obvious that this proposal will be a significant intrusion into the landscape and will generate a great deal of heavy lorry movement in an area of quiet country lanes and already congested access to the A27. The decision date for the Easton Farm appeal, also known as the Manhood Peninsula /Madestein appeal, has now been set to August 13.

Uckfield
February 2009
CPRE Sussex has welcomed the refusal by the Secretary of State of three housing application appeals on the edges of Uckfield. The sites are Downlands Farm, Bird in Eye North and Bird in Eye South. All of the sites fall outside the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
