Rother DC and new development in Winchelsea

It is not just the big development plans in our countryside that CPRE care passionately about: Stephen Hardy of Rother CPRE has campaigned against new individual proposals in Winchelsea Beach, a haven immediately next to Rye Harbour Nature Reserve.

The local sewerage system is totally overloaded, with Southern Water issuing a letter (21 Jan 2016) to locals saying inter alia, " a large volume of groundwater and surface water has entered the sewerage system during the recent wet weather. This has caused public sewers to fill to capacity. We are currently tankering additional flows away." What the letter did not say is that the tankering away has been taking place for years every winter.

So it is staggering that the previous day(!) despite vigorous local opposition and a considered plan-based objection from Rother CPRE, Rother District Council granted consent to a plan for two three storey houses, which were already apparently on sale off plan for £425000 each!
