Extremely annoying is the fact that very late in the planning day, ESCC decided they wanted a feeder road on to the Link Road, in order to create an access to the business park envisaged. Why they could not have thought about this at the time of the original application, heaven only knows. Supinely Rother DC passed these new plans on the nod.
One battle lost perhaps, but the local CPRE have been hard at work trying to protect the villages in Rother all in the AONB. First trying to beef up the High Weald AONB Unit when it published its rather flaccid plan; our belief is that the Unit needs to stand up fair and square to protect the countryside we have in the AONB. Second in submissions to the new Local Plan, CPRE have been arguing against loading new housing in the villages and for putting them in the towns which are blest with superior infrastructure which is far more sustainable.
We are also opposing the dropping of plans to site a new rail station on the Bexhill-Hastings line at Glyne Gap, which would have eased traffic congestion in the area of a major shopping centre, with or without the Link Road.
