A Biosphere Reserve is an international site of excellence to bring together nature conservation and sustainable development in practice, as a working example of a more balanced relationship between people and nature. The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) is the body that awards this status.
The proposed area is centred on the chalk downland block between the River Adur and the River Ouse, and includes the settlements of Brighton & Hove, Lewes, Newhaven, Peacehaven and Telscombe as well as the adjacent sea. It covers some 340 square kilometres, and area almost the size of the Isle of Wight
You can play a part and show your support during the 12-week public consultation period on the Biosphere Partnership’s draft management strategy, from 28th January to 22nd April 2013, by completing an online questionnaire.
You can also come along to one of the events on the touring roadshow, which includes a stunning photographic exhibition of what makes our area so special.
