Under the provisions of the Localism Act groupings of local people are encouraged to formulate Neighbourhood Plans. These are intended to be partly an expression of local preference for amenities and facilities, and partly a means of delivering their part of a District Council Local Plan. After extensive consultation and a mandatory referendum they will have statutory force when planning applications are considered. The most obvious (but not the only) grouping to develop a Neighbourhood Plan is the Parish Council.

There is already strong interest in many parts of East and West Sussex. Funding was allocated by the Department of Communities and Local Government to facilitate the process. This has been administered jointly by CPRE and the Association of Local Councils.

CPRE Sussex CT collaborated in March with CPRE Hampshire and the South Downs National Park in presenting a seminar to Parish Councils within the Park. We are working with the specialist team from CPRE National Office in providing practical guidance and support for the initial stages of formulating a plan. In the longer term the Branch will provide on-going support and advice.

We are aware of intentions to produce Neighbourhood Plans in Kirdford, Fernhurst, Boxgrove, Angmering, Littlehampton, Findon and Maresfield. Please let us know of others being considered and This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. how we can help.
