On 9 November 2015 we received the deeply worrying news that the Department for Transport has provisionally agreed to cut day-to-day spending by 30%.

We fear that the cut will hit everyday transport, the transport networks people use on a daily basis, whilst big road and rail schemes will remain untouched. We await details, but we fear this will mean more potholes in local roads, more cuts in local bus services, and less funding for safe cycling and walking routes.

We are particularly concerned about the Bus Service Operators Grant (BSOG), which could be cut entirely. This would mean a loss of £345 million in funding for services that are already in crisis.

With local authorities' budgets for supporting buses already being drastically squeezed all over the country, a cut to BSOG could be the death knell for local public transport in many areas.

The Campaign for Better Transport has drafted a response to the Chancellor for you to send which makes the case for protecting BSOG. Please add in your own thoughts about other everyday transport that should be protected. Perhaps you would rather the Government cut its £30 billion road building plans.
