Throughout the month, CPRE Sussex is taking part in a number of organised litter picks, and on Sunday September 22, the Campaign is holding a “Clean-up Sussex day” in a bid to rid the county’s paths and verges of litter.

During the day CPRE volunteers will be working alongside the A27 Clean-up Campaign to clear litter along the A27. Elsewhere, communities are being urged to spend one hour of the day picking up the discarded rubbish in their own neighbourhood.

“Despite all the publicity surrounding plastic pollution, litter is still a real problem in Sussex,” says CPRE Sussex Director, Kia Trainor.

“Unfortunately some people still see our road verges and pathways as waste bins and throw all kinds of things away into the vegetation. This can include everything from drinks cans and bottles, to toxic objects like batteries. This doesn’t just look unsightly; it can also be extremely harmful to the environment.”

The county clean-up will begin this weekend (Sept 14) with a litter picking walk along the River Adur organised by the Steyning Climate Action Alliance.
