On 15 December, CPRE Sussex submitted its response to the Brighton and Hove City Plan, making five objections. For reference, the proposed changes to the City Plan can be downloaded from the council's website [PDF 5.4MB]

Nadhim Zahawi, a backbench Conservative MP, has been told to support the Government’s planning reforms or quit as a Number 10 policy adviser.

On Wednesday, Mr Zahawi had warned of “intense attacks” on the countryside by “rapacious developers”. He said the “physical harm” to the countryside as a result of the planning reforms could become “the defining legacy of this Government”.

CPRE Sussex has written to all Sussex MPs, Nick Boles MP Planning Minister and Eric Pickles MP Communities Secretary calling on them to respond as a matter of urgency to fears that government policy and practice will fail to protect the Sussex countryside.

First anniversary of planning reforms finds less local control and more greenfield development.

A major analysis by the Campaign to Protect Rural England (CPRE) of how the Government’s National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) is being implemented during its first year is published this week. The emerging evidence raises significant concerns about whether the reformed planning system is capable of securing development the country needs and preventing damaging schemes in the wrong locations.

Planning Minister Nick Boles’s call to increase the urbanised area of England is provocative and unnecessary, and casts a shadow over at least 25% of our undisturbed countryside, say countryside campaigners CPRE.

The Government is consulting on plans to relax the rules relating to change of use of buildings. This change, if approved, could have serious implications for the way farm buildings are used in the countryside, with impacts such as additional traffic from commuting.

Our Neighbourhood Planning event on 24 July was a great success and brought villages together from across the county to discuss local issues and learn how to take forward their own Neighbourhood Plans.
