BBC Politics Show: CPRE Sussex on the Housing Bill

BBC Politics Show: CPRE Sussex on the Housing Bill

CPRE Sussex's Dr Roger Smith featured on BBC's Politics South East as Greg Clark MP, Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, defended the government's new Housing Bill and its provisions for "planning in principle" which does away with significant checks and balances within local planning process.

"It's dangerous for greenfield sites and it's dangerous for communities because it creates automatic planning permission," Dr Smith told The Politics Show. "By definition it means that the system we have now, whereby a plan is subject to proper scrutiny by the public, by officers, by stakeholders, by organisations like the CPRE – that requirment will go, and that plan will go ahead without proper scrutiny. I think that will have disastrous consequences for the countryside."

The programme is online on BBC iPlayer. The segment that discusses the Housing Bill starts at approximately 0'.45".
