CPRE Sussex criticises "unrealistic and excessive" house targets

The Sussex County Times published a major article yesterday on planning, quoting Dr Roger Smith of CPRE Sussex's Horsham District discussing the recent report Targeting The Countryside.

The report shows how the National Planning Policy Framework, implemented in 2012, has left local councils that don't have an approved local plan powerless in decisions of where developers can be built, with often catastrophic consequences.

Dr Smith told The Sussex County Times: "Environmental sustainability has been sacrificed in the pursuit of excessive and unrealistic house-building targets.

"The report shows planning's supposed 'golden thread' is in reality tarnished and base - because politicians have made it so."

Dr Smith went on to challenge councils, including Horsham District Council, to challenge central government on this issue. Download the full article below.
