The air we breathe, food we eat, water we drink, and even the natural habitats and landscapes we enjoy, these are just a few of the essential benefits of nature that contribute to our health and well-being. In Europe, the Birds Directive, Habitat Directive and the Natura 2000 network of designated conservation sites have served us well for decades in protecting and enhancing the natural environment. However, these laws are under threat of being weakened through the European Commission's REFIT review, which is evaluating whether the existing nature regulations are fit for purpose.
Following vociferous local opposition, and objections from CPRE Sussex's John Hurwood, the Planning Inspectorate has dismissed this appeal in favour of developing a campsite in ancient woodland near East Hoathley.
The following statement from the Adur Floodwatch Group was issued in response to the announced delay of the Adur Local Plan submission to Government.
The AFG is a consortium of all the residents associations across Adur including the Shoreham Society on the east of the river. The group has been borne out of considerable community concerns because of flood risk from inappropriate development proposed in the plan.
