Mr Glover and his panel of experts have been asked by the Government to make recommendations as to what changes, if any, are needed to enable England’s national parks and Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty to remain fit for purpose into the future. Sussex is home to parts of the South Downs National Park and the High Weald and Chichester Harbour AONBs, so we have a vital stake in their future.
Our branch response concentrates mainly on AONBs - the poor relation of National Parks - with a range of suggestions to Glover, based on our local experience, that would boost their ability to deliver better their protective purpose and other functions. We also make reference to the inappropriate preferred-option attempt by Highways England to force the A27 Arundel by-pass through the South Downs NP.
We have also contributed suggestions to CPRE’s National Office in respect of a more wide-ranging reply that they will be submitting to Glover’s call for evidence.
Download our response below.
We will post the CPRE's national response when it becomes available.
