The result of the poll published in the Eastbourne Review asking local residents whether they would prefer the Council to sell the Freehold of the Downland Farms or make cuts to frontline services has resulted in the decision not to sell off the Downland Estate.
So as from now, the potential sale of the Farms is off the table.
Activists argued that the poll was unfair, with its choice between selling the farmland or service cuts, however the public voted decisively against selling off the land.
Sally Boys of Keep Our Downs Public said, "Eastbourne people have shown that we can see through the spin and unfair choice offered by the so-called consultation in the Eastbourne Review.
"Above all we have shown that he people of Eastboune love and cherish their Downs and will fight to protect them.
"Its benefits are many and we have yet to scratch the surface of what positive, imaginative management can bring for the town, the council tax payer, wildlife, visitors and every Easbourne resident."
