Petition to save Boxal Bridge

Petition to save Boxal Bridge

Boxal Bridge, a landmark 1850s bridge is threatened by a West Sussex County Council plan to replace it with a two-lane structure.

WSCC have agreed to postpone the decision until after the Public Enquiry into an application by Celtique Energie to construct an exploratory drill on land to the south of Boxal Bridge on the Parish boundaries of Kirdford and Wisborough Green.

The Public Enquiry into is due to start Sept 8th, be held in Northchapel Village Hall (off A 283 to north of Petworth or south of Milton) is now estimated to last 12 days. The threatened bridge is named as an asset in the Kirdford Parish Neighbourhood Plan and as a CDC Heritage asset. The bridge is one of four similar structures enabling access to the village of Kirdford. Locals believe the existing bridge can be repaired, rather than replaced. A petition has been set up to demand that the bridge is not demolished.

If you have a West Sussex postcode, you are invited to sign the petition.
