Members recently enjoyed a wonderful private tour of The Giants of Brede Heritage Steam Engine collection near Rye organised by Lorna Train our Tours & Talks volunteer.  We took a step back in time to marvel at the magnificent steam engines and water pumps created in Victorian and Edwardian times to pump clean water to houses and businesses in Hastings followed by delicious tea and cakes.  Thank you to the Giants of Brede for their warm welcome and hospitality. Biodiversity

CPRE Sussex believes that the Planning system should support a net gain in biodiversity and that all planning applications should take due regard to wildlife. Our 'Planning for Nature' campaign aims:

In an article published in Planning Resource, architect Lord Rogers says that Britain is 'nowhere near' needing to build new towns in the countryside and the focus instead should be on driving up development density in urban areas.

Over 30,000 people have already signed this petition: "A bill has been passed that will allow fracking under our national parks and areas of outstanding natural beauty. Once underway, this will cause damage to scenery, wildlife, increase pollution in these fragile areas and create congestion on country roads. Sign this petition to save our countryside!"

An 85-home development on greenfield land between Ovingdean, Rottingdean and Woodingdean has been dismissed at appeal.

The application to build 85 homes at Meadow Vale was rejected by Brighton and Hove City Council’s planning committee last year, but the developers, Lightwood Strategic, appealed the decision.
